Physical Planning Department
The Physical Planning Department derives its mandate from the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), the Land Use and Spatial Planning Act, 2016 (Act 925) and other legal instruments.
Mandate
Advise the District Assembly on physical planning, land use and development control to ensure orderly spatial development within the district.
Core Activities & Services
- Advise the Assembly on national policies on physical planning, land use and development.
- Coordinate activities of departments and agencies to ensure compliance with planning standards.
- Assist in preparations of physical plans as a guide for development policies.
- Advise on conditions for construction of public and private buildings.
- Ensure building plans are approved before construction begins.
- Advise and facilitate demolishing of dilapidated buildings where necessary.
- Advise on the siting of billboards, masts and other structures.
