The Department promotes social development by protecting the rights and welfare of children, persons with disabilities, older persons and other vulnerable groups through social welfare services and advocacy.
Mandate
Promote the welfare and protection of vulnerable groups and facilitate community development through evidence-based social welfare services and advocacy.
Core Activities & Services
- Child protection services: managing child abuse, neglect and custody cases.
- Family welfare and counselling services.
- Registration and support services for persons with disabilities.
- Monitoring and supervision of residential homes, orphanages and daycare centres.
- Community sensitisation on child rights, gender-based violence and social inclusion.
- Case management and referral services for vulnerable individuals.
- Support for the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme.
